“Come ON! Get out of bed, we're going.”
“Hari, you're a little old to do this.”
“And you are a little boring to not go. Get up.” Hari pulled the duvet forcibly from Lisa's hands and began throwing articles of clothing on her friend. Lisa pulled the curtain back an inch and glared at the rain.
“It's peeing with rain,” she complained, picking through the clothes that were now covering her bed from headboard to footboard to assemble an outfit. “You're going to get some derpy, hideous Pokémon that Oak had stuffed in a cupboard for thirty years and that suffers from rabies.”
Hari stuck her tongue out. “Look, at 21, I feel I have missed out on enough of my childhood. I want to be a Pokémon Master!” she said, face almost shining with hope.
Lisa restrained a giggle. “Yes, dear,” she said, turning her back until she could trust her face not to betray her laughter. “Give me ten minutes to at least brush my teeth.”
Hari grinned widely. “Okay!” then darted from the room, humming her very own theme song as she went.

There was quite a queue when they arrived at Professor Oak's lab. Hari and Lisa stood head and shoulders above all the 10 year old kids who were there to collect their very first pokémon from Professor Oak. Hari was hopping from foot to foot in anticipation, and Lisa was trying very hard not to slap her friend and housemate. “Hari! For godssake stop hopping.”
“I'm getting. A POKÉMON. Why aren't you excited?”
“I am,” Lisa replied, an element of truth sneaking in. It would be kinda cool to have a pokémon of their own, travel around the world, battling, training, making friends...
“Hari?” Hari jumped when Oak called her name, stepping forwards towards the professor, her hands quivering just a little. “Come a bit closer, no need to be nervous,” he said, smiling kindly.
“Yes, Sir,” Hari replied, whole body beginning to shiver with excitement and nerves.
“Now, you've filled in our little quiz, and I think I have the perfect partner for your Pokémon journey,” Professor Oak told her, and Hari felt her heart swell slightly with excitement. He held out the Pokémon, and it unfurled itself from it's tan shell, huge eyes staring at her, and a high pitched squeak escaped Hari.
“Oh my GOD! It's so cute!” She scooped it into her arms, nuzzling against the Omanyte, who's face told anyone watching that it was terrified. “We're going to be great friends!” she told it, and it's look of terror seemed to multiply. She turned and waved one of it's tentacles at Lisa, who waved back and made a mental note to say 'I told you so'.
Hari stepped aside, and Oak called Lisa's name. Lisa stepped up and Oak glanced down at her quiz answers. “Hm, we have quite the rare Pokémon for you, Lisa!” he said, turning to where one of his assistants was holding a Pokéball. He pressed the button and out floated...
“It's a balloon!” Hari stated, staring at the purple creature who was looking at Lisa, a look of adoration on it's face. “I think it likes you.”
“It's Drifloon,” Oak said, putting the ball in Lisa's hand.
“Hi, Drifloon,” she said, still looking at the purple ball and shaking one of it's feet. It swooped down and hugged her, pressing against her face and making little noises of joy.
“It definitely likes you.”
“She,” Lisa corrected, and Drifloon released her and bobbed along behind her as she walked over to Hari and the squirming Omanyte. “Come on, we've got to go.”
“Where?”
“To pack!”
